Established 1858 by Antoine & Sarah Dingley Gordon, founders of the Town of Gordon. They constructed a log trading post, store and home here by the Eau Claire River at the Ojibwe/Metis Village of Amick along the trail to La Pointe. This was a native footpath, stagecoach and mail route to Bayfield and Madeline Island. A post office was established here in 1860.
Antoine Edward Gordon (1812-1907) was Metis, born at NW Co Fur Post, Sandy Lake, MN to Jean Baptiste Gaudin, Quebec Voyageur; and Awa-ne-shan (Young Beaver), an Ojibwe woman, cousin of Chief Hole-in-the-Day, the Elder.
Sarah Dingley Gordon (1827-1911) was Ojibwe, born at the mouth of the Yellow River to Daniel Dingley, American Fur Co Clerk; and
Isabella La Prairie (Mush-ko-dence.).
