Kate Lawler Perry

Kate Lawler Perry’s family has been in the Gordon area since the homesteader days of the late nineteenth century, where Kate’s family originally homesteaded on the Eau Claire River, just east of Gordon. Kate and several other family members continue to reside or have cabins in the Gordon-Wascott area. Many of Kate’s relatives worked for the railroads; Kate’s father was a third-generation resident and was the Wascott Town chair for over a decade. Phil Perry, Kate’s husband, organizes the classic car show over the Fourth of July every year for Gordon Days.
Several years ago, after raising a family, Kate became an artist and has become the Gordon-Wascott area’s resident painter. She enjoys painting area landscapes and also local historic places and events like the Tom and Jerry trees, the old Gordon Firetower, and the Five Mile Tower Fire of 1977. Kate’s paintings are popular, often memorializing things of local significance. She is generous with the proceeds from her art, using it to help fund charities and support nonprofits like the GWHS. We are grateful for Kate’s contributions to the community and for sharing her memories.
